A Trade license is a mandatory legal document for conducting business in the UAE. It authorizes companies to carry out specific commercial activities within the region. Whether you are launching a new venture or expanding an existing business, securing a trade license is essential to ensure compliance with local regulations and to drive sustainable growth.
A trade license in the UAE is an official document issued by Dubai’s Department of Economic Development (DED) that legally authorizes businesses to conduct specific commercial activities. It outlines the exact scope of operations permitted for a company and ensures compliance with local laws and regulations.
If you’re planning to obtain a trade license in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, the process can be straightforward when you follow the correct steps. The first step is to identify your business activities, followed by selecting a suitable company name in line with UAE naming regulations. Once these are in place, you can apply for your trade license through the Department of Economic Development (DED), the relevant municipality, or a free zone authority.
Partnering with a trusted business setup provider like MAFAZA can make the entire process faster, smoother, and completely hassle-free.
To apply, you will typically need to submit the following documents:

With the right support and proper documentation, obtaining a trade license in Dubai becomes a seamless process—allowing you to launch and grow your business without unnecessary delays.
In Dubai, every business is required to renew its trade license annually. A trade license is more than just a legal formality—it is the official authorization that allows companies to operate under UAE business laws. Keeping your license valid ensures compliance with regulations and also supports your company’s growth and profitability.
To successfully renew your trade license in the UAE, your tenancy contract must remain valid for the duration of the license period. Once your lease is renewed, it must also be registered and approved through Ejari, managed by the Real Estate Regulatory Authority.
Whether you are renewing or applying for a new trade license in Dubai, the process often involves multiple documents and government approvals. For many business owners, this can feel overwhelming. That’s where MAFAZA comes in—our specialists guide you through every step, from preparing the required paperwork to coordinating with the relevant authorities.
At MAFAZA, we go beyond compliance. We ensure the process is seamless so you can focus on what matters most building and growing your business. From your very first application to every renewal thereafter, we are here to support your ambitions every step of the way.
1. Verify Your Tenancy Contract
Before starting the renewal process, make sure your tenancy contract is valid for at least one month. The contract must also be attested through Ejari. Without a valid and approved lease agreement, your trade license renewal application may be rejected.
2. Submit the Application to DED
Complete the BR/1 form for trade license renewal and attach all the required documents. Submit the application to the Department of Economic Development (DED) either online or in person. The DED will review your submission to ensure compliance with all regulations.
3. Receive the Payment Voucher
Once your application has been verified and approved, the DED will issue a payment voucher. This document is mandatory and must be obtained before proceeding with the renewal fee payment.
4. Pay the Renewal Fee
Using the payment voucher, pay the required trade license renewal fee. Payments can be made conveniently online, through the DED’s mobile app, or at an authorized service center. The renewal will only be finalized once the payment has been successfully processed.
